A French security door is two doors that meet in the middle. Measuring is the same idea as a single — opening width, opening height, knob centers — with one extra step: lining up the openable side of your security doors with the openable side of your existing house doors. Final measurements are confirmed on site before fabrication begins.
Tape measure, Short ladder.
Make sure your French house doors open inward into the house, and decide which leaf is the active (openable) one. We line up the openable side of your security doors with the openable side of your house doors so they work together.
Most French openings are a 6×7 (about 72" wide × 80" tall) or a 6×8 (about 72" wide × 96" tall). Measure your width in inches in three places — top, middle, and bottom — and write down the smallest of the three. We finish the pair at about 72½" overall so the doors sit inside the opening with a clean ¼" of clearance on each side.
Run the tape from the threshold to the top notch on the wood trim. For a 6×7 opening that is 80". For a 6×8 opening that is 96".
From the top notch downward, measure to the center of your existing knob and deadbolt. Standard centers are 41" for a 6×7 and 57" for a 6×8. Write down what you have and we will match it.

Width (top/middle/bottom), height, knob/deadbolt centers, and a couple of phone photos of the opening from outside.
